Great for hard ground
I normally use the yellow plastic stakes in dirt, but on a recent trip to Death Valley, the campground at Furnace Creek was hard as nails... so these nail spikes did the trick. I had forgotten to pack a mallet, so my wife held the stake and I used a rock like a cave man to drive them into the hard ground. I'm glad I did. The wind picked up to 25 mph during the night. The stakes held perfectly. On other threads, I've read that the plastic head is prone to breakage, but I haven't experienced that with these...yet. In soft or muddy ground, they might pull out, but nothing else will work in really hard ground.

In general the stakes are good, however the plastic part of color orange is a little weak and it breaks up with easiness.
