About Kelty
Kelty has been building affordable, reliable outdoor gear since 1952, helping everyone--from the first-time camper to the experienced mountaineer--embrace the outdoor experience with confidence. Dick Kelty launched the company after years of making backpacks in his home or garage for friends, hand forming and welding each of the frames while his wife sewed the pack bags. The original Kelty packs included aircraft-aluminum contoured frames, padded shoulder straps, waist belts, clevis-pin attachments, nylon pack cloth, zippered pockets, and hold-open frames. Dick Kelty quit his carpentry business in 1956 to focus full time on Kelty Packs, and turned an old Glendale, California, barbershop into his first retail store and factory. In the ensuring years, Kelty expanded its product line to include daypacks, luggage, waterproof clothing, child carriers, jogging strollers, and more.
With so many on offer these days, it is great to have a name you can trust. This item is certainly that and will be a perfect buy. The distributor have added some great touches and this equals great value.

Great for camping in your van
We use the Kelty Car Tarp when camping in our Toyota Sienna minivan. We have removed the middle and rear seats, and built a bed into the back. With the Car Tarp, we can use the side door and leave the side window open in the rain, and no water gets inside. We have even found it possible to disconnect the tarp from the car and leave it standing in order to drive the car away, and then come back and park again and reattach the tarp. Be sure to mark the position of the tires first, so you can return to the same spot.
You definitely need to set it up once to get it all figured out, but once you've got the hang of it it goes up pretty easily. I strongly suggest leaving the guy lines attached to the tarp when putting it away.
The only real downside we've noticed is a tendency for rainwater to pool in the top half of the tarp, so you need to make sure to push it off to the side away from the car. I'm sure I'll eventually figure out a way to adjust it to prevent...

Does what it says.
Just had a full set up and test on the Kelty Car Tarp. There are few reviews so I'll give my two cents.
Bought the tarp about 6 months ago or so. We did a test run at the house (highly recommended). The setup is not technically difficult but you should have some working knowledge about tents to get the most out of this product. We found that it is flexible on how you choose to attach to the vehicle. It seems a roof rack with rails is pretty important for good anchoring. I'm sure you could find other ways as well.
This last weekend we took it to the beach. Perfect day to test it's stability, the winds were gusty and strong. The setup uses old school cross stabilization with tension tie downs and works the best with TWO people. This product sets up with a healthy amount of patience :) I'm the kind of guy that loves knots and rope.. so as long I'm not in a rush it's a good deal of fun. Set up was about 15 minutes total. I'll probably get it down to about...
